Eight musicians of the world-renown Ensemble Linea will be taking part in a brief residency at the Peabody Institute which will culminate in the premiere of works composed for the entire group and each of its individual constituents. As musicians that are specialized in the intricacies and challenges of contemporary music practices, this collaboration has allowed a very lucky select few of Peabody composers to write for trailblazers in contemporary music, either in a solo or an ensemble work.
Carlos is indebted to have been allowed the opportunity to write for the septet ensemble, comprised of Johannes Burghoff (‘cello), Laurent Camatte (viola), Helena Sousa Estévez (accordion), Carolina Santiago Martínez (piano), Keiko Murakami (flutes), Andrea Nagy (clarinets), Ernst Spyckerelle (violin), and conductor Jean-Philippe Wurtz. They will be performing his work Polyhedral, which aims to explore an array of timbres and textures offered by this unique instrumentation.
Ensemble Linea’s time at Peabody will feature three concerts total, with two being dedicated to Peabody premieres. Polyhedral will be performed on the first of these, on May 8 at 7:30 PM. The concert will be free and open to the public, taking place in Peabody’s Joe Byrd Hall. Additionally, a livestream will be available as a feed from Peabody Remote.
